As I wrote earlier today on our sibling blog, Typblography, a new version of AFDKO was release earlier this month. I want to use this opportunity to point out some of the changes and enhancements that affect font developers who work with CID-keyed fonts. The details are buried in the detailed Release Notes that Read Roberts prepared.
Some of the highlights include the following:
- The mergeFonts tool was enhanced so that a mergeFonts mapping file is not required when converting name-keyed fonts into a CID-keyed font, if the glyphs are named according to their target CIDs, such as “cid1200” for CID+1200.
- The “Adobe-Japan1_sequences.txt” IVS (Ideographic Variation Sequence) definition file for Adobe-Japan1-x was updated to include the 32 additional registered “Adobe-Japan1” IVSes from the 2012-03-02 version of the IVD (Ideographic Variation Database).
- All of the UTF-32 CMap resources were updated to their latest versions, except for the latest versions of the Adobe-Japan1-6 UniJIS-UTF32-H, UniJIS2004-UTF32-H, UniJISX0213-UTF32-H, and UniJISX02132004-UTF32-H CMap resources that add the single U+207F → CID+15908 mapping. To get these latest CMap resources, simply download them from the CMap Resources open source project, and copy them into the appropriate AFDKO subdirectory, replacing the slightly older versions.
- Also, several of the Perl tools that I introduced during the Tokyo AFDKO Workshop in late June, such as cmap-tool.pl, extract-cids.pl, extract-gids.pl, extract-names.pl, fdarray-check.pl, fix-fontbbox.pl, hintcidfont.pl, and subr-check.pl, have been included in this new version of AFDKO.
