The next UTC (Unicode Technical Committee) meeting—the 155th one—takes place during the week of April 30th, and will be hosted at the Adobe headquarters in San José, California. Of course, all voting members of the Unicode Consortium are strongly encouraged to attend.
In addition to representing Adobe during UTC #155, I am also the Adobe host, meaning that I will need to take care of much of the logistics, and generally be available to assist attendees with their needs, such as printing documents.
As usual, there are several documents that I have in the pipeline that will be discussed during the meeting, though the PRIs have the highest priority:
- L2/18-063 (aka IRG N2296), prepared by Henry Chan and me, is a proposal to remove the static “UCS2003” representative glyphs from the Extension B code charts
- L2/18-065 (aka IRG N2297) proposes several changes to the kIRG_GSource property; the first section is already reflected in the Proposed Update for UAX #38 (aka PRI #361)
- L2/18-066 (aka IRG N2298) is a proposal to make modest changes to the kIICore property based on my recently analysis of that property (see Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4 & Part 5); be sure to read L2/18-071 (also available in the IRG #50 document register), which are Jaemin Chung’s comments
- L2/18-073 is a revised and significantly reduced version of L2/18-013 that proposes to define SVSes (Standardized Variation Sequences) for a small number of punctuation characters that have historically been ambiguous in terms of their width or alignment
- The Proposed Update for UAX #11 (East Asian Width), PRI #360, adds a note to the end of Section 2, Scope, that clarifies the intended use with regard to modern terminal emulators—I am the editor of this Unicode Standard Annex
- The Proposed Update for UAX #50 (Unicode Vertical Text Layout), PRI #369, removes Section 4, Tailorings, altogether—I am a co-editor of this Unicode Standard Annex as of Unicode Version 11.0
UTC #155 is also the meeting that takes place before Unicode Version 11.0, whose beta is underway as PRI #372, is released. I look forward to seeing new and familiar faces there.
